Actually, besides just being cool, a spy can't wear a hat, so if you know one of your team is wearing a hat and you see their name, its a spy. So there is some advantage to having a team full of people with hats...so you can't just use that as a reason not to go into these idle servers and get them. People can do what they want, and Valve hasn't declared it illegal, so flaming the people that do use idle servers doesn't make any sense.

i actualy have used this program for less the 24 hours :| so - 24 from my tf2 hours. (i'm a college aged student who is currently unemployed.....survey says videogames are good)

I basically dont care if you do it because even if i do you will do it. I wont do it because it really doesnt matter that i unlock some weapon, all the ones i need to help the team i have. There are only a few out there that really make a difference in my game play. The hats are just special bonuses that i wish i had some times but really dont care about either. So go ahead and let your computer sit around in these servers but im just going to play the game i paid for to play.
