This was really interesting, I know I'll be keeping up with these. I like the general unimportance they placed on accuracy, it made me think about the way I play a lot.

wow, i totally disagree with you must recovers statements about aim...he must be joking. Even spam must be aimed well or it won't do damage. Aim is extremely important for pipes and I just think he was referring to the high spam quotient of demomen which is less aim oriented.

    Cool stuff, thanks!

Here is my trick for improving pipe aim... Think if every pill as being very precious. Fire that pill as if you are reluctantly letting go of a valuable, rare, unique kind of thing. You are letting it go, but only because you must... and not hitting something with it would be an unthinkable waste. This framing can make a huge difference for me.

This trick works for other things too. I often cross the line between being brave and being suicidal, and it really helps to frame my life as a precious thing and to think if dying as a horrible thing. I suppose I ought to be thinking that way to begin with

something that really helps me is to realize you need to aim, not just pop off 4 grenades in a panic, lol. Also, while aiming, make sure you get off at least 2-3 pipes in rapid succession and your chances of hitting are much better than fire one, wait, fire two etc. this means you always need to have your gun reloaded before being in a dangerous area or venturing into a dangerous area. Being fully loaded at all times is the key.

Also, remember the pipe comes out from the right if stationary, so targets on the right require less/no flick whereas a target on the left of the crosshair will require a slight flick to the right to force the grenade to shoot straight/from the left.

    Confused yet?

I think he was saying that playing the map, area denial and other strategy is more important than actual aiming ability. He wasn't saying that you shouldn't aim, he was just saying that even if you can't sink every nade into a target you can still be a effective demoman.

It's so easy for me to forget this... I get so excited when I'm out there shooting people and all.

Another problem for me is that I can convince myself that I'm aiming when I'm really just shooting in somebody's general direction. I can get around that if I place importance on not wasting pills. For me, there appears to be a benefit in trying things to the outcome (hit) rather than the process (aiming).

Remembering to pull back and fully reload is a huge problem for me. I often stay on the front lines, load-shoot-load-shoot-die, and then wonder how I managed to forget. Just having too much fun i guess. I am yet to come up with an effective strategy for remembering this.
