    My hopes for the Engineer update

    It's just around the corner, and I'm honestly excited and yet, afraid at the same time. Because I hear people on the forums asking for anti spy weapons or some kind of ridiculously overpowered sentry. The Engineer is a class that is at this moment, an easy class. The gun does all the work for you, all you have to do is protect your shit. I'm hoping Valve adds more mobile and offensive capabilities to the class to make it more enjoyable.

    Here's what I would like to have

    • Morgan, a shotgun that can be a deployable sentry gun.
    • A target painter, so that I can manually choose which targets I want my gun to shoot at.
    • ORBS, a suggestion for mobile buildings.
    • A new PDA to allow me to modify my buildings to fit specific situations.
    • A soft counter to the Demo, nothing too big, jsut something that would make it a tad less frustrating when a demo puts stickies all over my buidlings. As of now, there's literally nothing you can do at that point except run.



    Here's what I would NOT like

    • A Spy counter for Engineer, we already have flamethrowers, jarate, homewreckers, and razorbacks. Anything else at this point would just be absurd. Besides, if a Spy kills you as an Engineer it's your own fault, he's very easy to overcome if you use your brain a little.
    • Another stationary gun, I'm sorry but stationary weapons make the class boring and often lead to turtling. Besides, the lvl 3 sentry does just fine as it is now. There's no need to give us more on defense.
    • A Nailgun, or some kind of weapon that can reapir buildings from a distance. This is not needed for the Engineer, cause it'll influence players to deploy a gun then leave it. Which eventually will lead to it getting sapped or blown to pieces. Engineers should be encouraged to guard their shit, not just drop it and leave it. Especially not on our server, I can only imagine the kind of trouble that will bring.
    • Anything that would turn the Engineer into a combat class, he's not made for combat. His job is to give his team a base to come back to. An area where they can retreat to if things get too hot and heavy. A similar example to this was the Ambassador on the first few days of release, Spies are not a rambo class. They are a stealth class, and the way the unlocks have been tweaked make sure he fits this role. For instance, the Dead Ringer now is a stealth tool, not a spam device. We all remember how annoying it was to have to kill a Spy 10 times in 30 seconds before he finally just dropped dead.

    there isn't really anything specific i want for this update but i am excited... i want to see what they come up with for him

    Anti-spy tools to deal with dead ringers... or a sentry you can throw to ceilings so it is out of spies reach and you could leave it alone would be cool.

    Something to make offensive engineer easier.
    Right now all I do when I play offensive engineer is swear a lot.

    My ideal offensive engineer unlock would be a sentry that is invincible in building and upgrading stages but has less health.
    So, when you throw it down in an area, you shotgun people but they can't kill your gun until it goes all the way up.

    Think of the possibilities that open up to the engineer if hes able to attach a sentry to any wall or ceiling. His options open up 3x more!

    Well look at the Razorback....such a great tool right? Useless, besides, you can counter Spies with a little bit of smarts. However, you can't outsmart sticky bombs....

    I think you missed the joke of your spy-centric bias....

    Sentry Airblast - pushes stickies, sappers, and bodies away from the gun in all 360 degrees & 3 dimensions of the gun with a right-click of the wrench. Can only be used once per sentry life or have an exceedingly slow rebuild (like 1/3 the rate of an ubercharge).

    i understood it am right there with you

    i also like your idea but in my opinion it should cost the max amount of metal to use with a small cooldown timer.


    or a jetpack...
