Re: This will be the end of TF2 as we know it
The reason why the Equalizer works so well is the speed boost, the Soldier really doesn't get that many melee kills. I think the shovel is the weapon with the least kills if memory serves. It's either that or the fists. But the Soldier is too slow to have any melee weapon with a function like stealing health.

I just don't see why the Soldier should be encouraged to try and melee someone. That's the primary reason I stopped using the Equalizer cause I would often do suicide runs. Now I use the Pain Train and only melee when it's necessary.
I honestly don't see the point in the Shiv or this if Valve actually wanted to implement it. At least the other unlocks have a designated purpose.
EDIT: Could an admin please change the name of the thread, I made it rather dramatic. *facepalm*Last edited by Watsyurdeal?; 06-25-10 at 09:37 PM.

The Equalizer isn't about meleeing people, it's powerful because it gives you a low-health escape option. If it did 0 damage I'd still use it over anything else. It seems that Valve are sticking to releasing gimmick melee weapons because it gives the community something new while not unbalancing the game.

The Equalizer used to be a rage tool, making the Soldier into a Spy with Scout speed via rocket jumps and instant-kill hits.
Now that its damage been toned down, it's pretty much a free get away and it should always be used instead of the shovel or pain train.
The pain train is terrible, but that's another thread altogether.
