Not to mention the fact that Robin Walker in one of the stated in one of the official blogs that the TF2 team is down to just a handful (like 5 IIRC) people. For 5 guys they are managing to pump out a lot of updates and fixes as well as being really responsive to adding community requests.

Valve is working on Portal 2, especially porting Portal 2 to the PS3 network with Steam benefits. This has been announced months ago...

I think a 10th class is pretty much dead, I guess Valve figured they'd find ways for the other classes to suit the various roles that aren't filled yet.

Yeah, just look at sword n' board, huntsmen, sleeping bear, and the like.
