Looking for feedback and some ban testing
Kick and ban menu commands now work, so now I'm looking for some basic feedback on how the menus feel.
I also need some testers to test out the ban commands to make sure they are properly obeying the time limits.
Unfortunately I'm out this whole weekend starting tomorrow, so you guys get to try this stuff out on your own. Arreo is going to manage the test server for the weekend, turning it on and off as needed in my absence. He also knows the rcon password and will unban people as needed.
I specifically need 2 volunteers to work with Arreo to make sure the ban's time limits are accurate.
- One person will be banned for one hour. That person needs to track time for that hour, and after 55 minutes, needs to be spam-joining the test server to see when it finally lets him in. It should let you in after exactly 1 hour
- The other person will be permanently banned. Rather than test it out that way, however, we're just going to make sure it bans you for at least a day. So if you were to get permanently banned tomorrow (friday), periodically check to make sure your still banned until Sunday. Then get Arreo to unban you.
The idea is that when you have time this weekend, just hop in the test server with a buddy to try this stuff out. The server will be up most of Friday, and if you need it up another time this weekend, just ask Arreo.
The Admin Menu
To operate the menu, bind a key to "ls_admin_menu" in your console. This command will bring up your admin menu:
Choose player management and you get to this menu:
The general feel of the menus is that you have a title on top, actions in the middle, and navigation on the bottom. The three areas are always separated by blank space so it's visually easy to distinguish them.
The title and navigation choices are always white, and the navigation areas always use the same numbers for the same choices.
- 8 is always Nextl
- 9 is always Previous / Back
- 0 is always Exit / Cancel
Actions (the middle items) are orange if enabled (usable) and white if they are disabled. For instance, the "Quick Slap" and "Quick Slay" are not implemented yet, so they are disabled (white). Disabled items cannot be selected and the menu will not respond to you trying to select them.
If you were to choose permanent ban you would get to this menu:
Select the person you want to ban, and they are banned.
Now to explain what the deal with all of those choices being called "Quick". As it turns out, punishing players can involve a lot of options: how much slap damage, what kick reason, one or multiple players to punish, etc.
If you need to punish a player, many times it just need to happen right then and there, and dealing with "options" takes too long. Hence the "Quick" commands. They are pre-configured ready-to-use actions where all you have to do is select the player name and it does it's thing. Their intended so that in the heat of the moment, you can do what you need to do fast and effortlessly.
In addition to the "Quick" actions, there will be the normal actions like "Kick" and "Ban", and they will sport a more complex menu that will let you configure every aspect of that action.
For instance normal ban will let you
- Select the time duration
- Add as many players as you want to the ban
- Select a ban reason from a list of possible reasons (i.e. "For camping", "For not playing with the team", "For cheating", etc)
- Select whether the ban should be by steam id or by IP
Well that's my speal. Try it out some time this weekend.

Re: Looking for feedback and some ban testing
Known issues:
- When you kick or ban someone, rather than entirely closing the admin menu, it goes back to the player management menu
- Sound and Voting menus are just placeholders right now
- Kick and Ban give don't give a custom reason yet (They tell the victim "Kicked by Console" right now). If you have a suggestion on what single message could be generically used for an admin that quickly needs to kick / ban someone for a variety of reasons, I'm all ears.

Double confirmed that the 1 hour ban is exactly that.

They look really similar to Mani, which I love. Great job man. I can't wait to get my hands on it.
