    General Vote Mechanics Suggestion

I have always thought that having the map votes numbers 1-5 increased the chances of accidental voting.

I also know that revote is a fantastic tool.

I also know that many people miss their revote time frame.

I think that to reduce the chances of people needing to revote we could change the button options to 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0. Get people off their "WASD" keys so they have to intentionally hit their vote.

    What do you think?

We were talking about that the other night on the server. So many times I hit a button right as the map vote comes up. In css it always comes up when I want a nade or something. Same in tf2. Yes the revote function is there and is fantastic. However, if I am in the middle of a fire fight, I am not going to stop to revote. Pause let me revote... headshot. Like consultant says most of the time when you get a chance to revote(dead or round end) the vote is already over. I support it. It may be a little different than conventional thinking, but it should work.

To play devil's advocate, if you are in a firefight and a vote comes up are you going to take your hand off of WASD or your mouse to reach 7, 8, 9, or 0?

personally id rather just have the system to notify that a vote is going on and a user having to type 'vote' into chat to see the vote and its options... eliminates both sides of the argument...

typing vote takes too long....perhaps have them press a key, like "0" or "\" or something to participate in the vote. that would ensure that only intentional votes are counted.

typing vote in the chat is lame.

No but I also know that if I mash 3 I will ALWAYS pull out my melee weapon and not accidentally vote for pl_backwater.

If a 6,7,8,9,0 vote comes up, I can finish the fight I am in and vote intentionally. I won't stop my fight to vote if I am in one, but I will never accidentally mash 7 or 8.

I think it could be resolved by adding a "locked out voting timer." If it's even possible.

Instead of being able to vote right away, there is like a 5-10 second timer that doesn't allow you to vote at all until that timer is done.

Gives people the opportunity to realize the vote is up and maybe even scroll over a page to view all the maps.

That would work, but I think it would be easier to program different buttons (6-0) than it would be to program a new feature like a vote lockout timer.

    Re: General Vote Mechanics Suggestion

FYI when a vote screen pops up, any number keys you press get sent to the menu and they will not switch your weapons.

So even if it used numbers 6-9, if you were to press 3 to switch to melee, the 3 wouldn't do anything since 3 is not a valid menu option. Until you dismiss that menu by selecting a valid menu item, your number keys won't return to their normal bindings.

And what is the purpose of a timer that prevents *everyone* from being able to vote, why even start the vote if nobody can vote?
