    Gunner tutorial article

In this guide I'll show you some of the tips I use to be a successful gunner. When you are finished going through this tutorial, you should feel more confident in your ability to be successful when gunning from a chopper. We'll cover hitting the chopper on a roll, target priority, helpful tips and also hitting jets.
There are some important tips to keep in mind when applying what you learn here to the game. Spot everything! This will make it a lot easier for the pilot, even if you’re in the same squad. Be observant and look out for enemy helos, AA's, etc. When you get in the helo, press the 'c' key. That will remove the nose of the chopper blocking some of your view. Try turning your mouse sensitivity up, this will make your shots a lot more accurate. (In-game 2.40) (Mouse 1000 DPI) (Logitech G9x) Bring down the console (~key) and type gamelock.fps 0. That will not limit bf2's FPS to 100, and will give the TV crosshair a 'smoother' feel. Some graphics I prefer to use are that all settings are on high except for Lighting (low), Dynamic Shadows (off), and Dynamic Lighting (low) and AA is on 8x.

    Target Priority:
    1) Attack Choppers / 'Fatties' (Transport Choppers)
    2) AA of any kind
    3) FAV's
    4) Hard Targets (tanks, APC's etc.)
    5) Jets / Infantry
    __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____________________________________

    The TV:
CLICK! The only way you are going to be successful with the TV is if you keep clicking, weather your target be a tank, mobile, jet, chopper, boat, etc. On average I click anywhere from 3-6 times depdening on the target. Don't exit the TV screen, until your target is destroyed, or you are 100% sure that you can't make the shot. Tanks and other hard targets are very easy to hit.. But some people have trouble hitting jets and choppers.

Choppers: Aim where the chopper WAS. Don't try to aim in-front of the chopper, or predict where to place the TV, because that doesn't work. Just aim where it was. When the chopper is sitting still, or barely moving, it's just as easy as hitting a tank. Which brings me on to something a bit more challenging...

Hitting the chopper on a roll:
I like to aim for the missiles that are on the side of the helo, or the underbelly of the chopper, but the missiles seem to register better.
Here is a chopper in a roll, aim for the red 'x' and you should get a kill... Remember aim where the chopper was, but at the same time go for the 'x' (just have to get the feel).

And your result should look something like this:

Another example would be when the chopper is going to the side on a "tilt"... Again aim for the red 'x'

    result:

Jets: Jets, the funnest thing to shoot down with a TV, are also one of the easiest (yes, easy). If the jet is approaching you head on, aim right in-front of the windshield of the jet, that's the only place I can get a solid registration. Hit the red 'x' (below). And that goes for all jets, hit that place and you should get a kill.

When the jet is going away from you, try to put the TV right up the engine of the jet; that should get you a kill. Also, the hardest jet to hit (front & back) is the F-18, due to how "pointy" the jet is.

    The Chaingun:
If you are aiming at infantry aim at the ground right below them, don't try to aim the the infantry's head or chest, because that won't work. Now here comes to the more difficult task of aiming: If the chopper is rotating to the left, aim to the right of the target, and if the chopper is rotating to the right, aim left of the target. Not too much though, or you will over-compensate and miss. You'll eventually get the feel of it. Notice in the picture below, the chopper is rotating to the left, but I am aiming to the right of the target...

Here's a video showing you: (not the best, I know... but there's a good example around 10 seconds into the video)

In this tutorial we have hit on all topics pertaining to gunning from a chopper. This includes various tips I have observed to be valuable in game play, actual video from the game to give you a direct perspective on the elements explained throughout the tutorial, target priorities and suggested game settings for the smoothest play.

    Happy Gunning!

Reis, thanks for bringing this over here, bud. I can't look at it throroughly enough to tell you what it might need or not need right now, but I, or another editor, will go through it and get back to you ASAP. At a quick glance, it looks like it's good stuff.

I made some formatting and grammar corrections. All it really needs to be ready, is an introductory paragraph (even just a sentence or two) and a closing paragraph to replace "Hope this helped..."

OK, I changed the link to the image of the jet to a text link as it looks now. You can do this in the future by doing text you want.

intro and conclusion paragraphs are a must.

Also, I see the reason/purpose for having everything centered, but there ends up being a LOT of wasted, white space. Is there a way you would be willing to reformat it so its more "compact" and less white space?

I centered them, Pote. Forum code won't allow for making images surrounded by text, so the placement can be adjusted once submitted. It can be submitted once we get intor and conclusion paragraphs.

    As far as content goes....

from the viewpoint of someone who has never played the game, I think it's great. I actually feel like I could jump in the game, have an idea of whats going on, and even have some success. Its well thought out guides like this that are going to put us on the map. Walker and Pote covered the need for intro's. I may just be confused but it seems like the graphics part would fall under the 'important tips' part with the tips for framerate, etc.

    My ass...

Just edited the article to add conclusion, introduction and moved the "Graphics I use" info to appropriate place. Should be done, just let me know!

Allrighty then. Added you to the author's group. Under the Site Tracking box, you should see a little thing called "tools" and submit an article. Go a head and click that and copy the post AS IT APPEARS IN THE ORIGINAL POST. DO NOT copy the raw forum code. Copy, paste, make sure its all the way you like it and finish off with submit. Dont touch anything else, the editors will take care of that.

Once submitted, one of the editors will send you a link and you should keep that for your records.

    Questions?
    Code:
