TTP Tournament Championship In Review

The 2007-2008 TTP Counter-Strike: Source tournament found itself in the final week with two teams left undefeated. The Chozen and the Killers were squaring off in what many considered to be the "battle of the giants". With both teams full of raw talent and disciplined teamwork, brought about only by months of playing together as a cohesive unit, this match proved to be exciting. To the victors of this battle would go the title of TTP's Counter-Strike: Source Champions.

After much anticipation, the battle finally began on Friday, July 12th. The map to be played was de_aztec, and while de_aztec may not have been the map both sides would've liked to face each other on, the map was pre-determined, and so it began. Playing for The Chozen were Pimp Trizkit, Bravo, B.S., KidWiththeFACE, and Scrum (aka Death Adder). On the Killers side, we saw action from Pablo (aka Klutch), Rage!, PintOfBass, Toker, and Sambo. With both teams ready to go, the action began, with the Chozen being Counter-Terrorist the first half.

The tournament was set to run with the old CAL config ($800 start money, 15 rounds/half), and thus, the first few rounds saw much up-close action. In the first round, the terrorist pushed the A-site primarily through the bridge room where PintofBass(bomber) made short work of DeathAdder, but was taken care of by PimpTrizkit immediately upon entering the site. KidWithTheFace helped to alleviate some of the stress by securing the double-doors entrance and taking out Pablo with a nade.

The second round, Kid once again proved useful. As the T's pushed double doors and water, Kid, alone at B, pulled off a headshot on PintofBass to down the bomb in the open. Meanwhile, over near short-A ramp, Pablo was able to sneak up behind a CT, while they were making mince-meat of any remaining T's entering through double-doors. However, it wouldn't prove enough, as B.S. quickly dealt with Pablo.

In the third round, the T's tried a different approach by nade spamming the bridge room as the rushed across it. But Scrum and Pimp would have none of it, clearing out the T's before they made it across the bridge.

Still, it was in the 5th round that the T's got a little bit of information on the CT's. Pablo and Rage covered the water, yet little did Pablo know that Pimp was waiting for him to cross his field of vision. But Rage was able to go tit-for-tat and avenge his buddy with a nicely placed shot.

Using the information from the round prior, the T's worked B-site using some properly placed smokes to cover the view from the CT's at A. Knowing that Scrum played double doors closely and Kid was stationed at B, the T's, after a short delay, hit the doors hard. Sambo made a nice entry kill with a 1-deag to Scrum. Then, using flashes, they kept Kid down until Pint could take him out with his MP5 , then picking up his AWP in the process. Though Bravo was able to shoot down Toker, making him drop the bomb, Pint was still able to plant the bomb with 5 seconds left on the round timer. He then moved to catacombs to protect it. However, a timely flash by Bravo blinded Pint in the catacombs and Bravo was able to get the defuse before dying.

The Killers, and Pint especially, took major offense to that defuse, because the next round, they came out guns blazing. Pint, peeking double doors, AWP'd three of The Chozen, taking out BS, Bravo, and KidWithTheFace. Meanwhile, Pablo pimped Pimp and the Killers eliminated Scrum. The Killers had won their first round, and none of them had died in the process.

The score in the first half was now 6-1.

The eleventh round brought about a good battle, as BS got pounded by nades while watching the bridge room.As the Killers rushed across bridge and planted at A, they spread the bombsite and covered every entrance. The last man standing was Bravo, coming through CT spawn to the back of A. Here, he and his AWP were met by Pablo and his MP5. Bravo missed. Pablo hit.

The Killers won their second. The score was now 9-2, with 4 rounds to go in the first half.

As the Killers tried to take the double-doors in the 13th round, Toker ran into an unlucky situation. Getting an entry-kill on Scrum,he was able to recover from a barrage of bullets and pick up an M4. He popped out and got a good look at 3 CTs, 2 of them clueless to his position.

But it just wasn't in the books....the M4 he picked up was near empty, and he was only able to get off a few unsuccessful shots before having to switch to his deagle, dying shortly thereafter.

In the 14th round, Bravo made sure the bridge wouldn't get pushed again, getting an early kill on Sambo and another on Toker. Scrum then took care of Pablo and Pint, leaving Rage alone against 5 of The Chozen. Somehow, he made it all the way to B site before getting shot in the nuts by Bravo.

In the last round of the first half, the T's tried completely covering the double doors with smoke, but that gave SCrum a chance to hide in the smoke and take out 4 of the T's, ending the half at 13-2, with The Chozen winning the 1st half.

The 2nd half was just as exciting with tCz now being terrorists on the harder side of the map. The first few rounds were very similar, but in the third round, everyone spectating got a good laugh. As The Chozen tried to push the bridge, Pablo picked them off with an AWP very early in the game. With the Killers eliminating everyone but Bravo, and Bravo only having a glock, he decided to go Bravo versus the World. It just wasn't going to happen. Going into round 4, it was tCz O, Killers 3.

But in the 5th round, in what looked to be tCz's first possible win, The Chozen pushed the double doors towards B, making it all the way to the bombsite before Pablo and Toker showed up to play with their AWPs. They picked off T after T as they tried to carry the bomb to the site, and thus, kept their winining streak alive at 5.

Then, in the 6th round, in a very preemptive, TTP fashion, as soon as one of The Chozen was spotted coming out of the double doors, the Killers sent them some airmail, eliminating three of The Chozen with he_grenades.

In the 7th round, it looked as though The Chozen might get their first win, as they stormed both bridge room and short-A ramp. Unfortunately for them, Rage prevented Pimp from making it to the bombsite with the bomb. And though they took over A site, they could not recover from the dropped bomb.

In the 8th round, The Chozen were able to clear double doors without a single person down. Pimp had well placed AWP shots on both Sambo and Pablo while the rest of tCz cleared the B site and planted the bomb. With a 5-on-1 advantage, once again, it was Rage left to try and clutch the round. And, while he made one entry kill going through catacombs, he was blindsided by Kid and his AK, resulting in the first tCz win for the 2nd half.

Then, in the 9th round, in what looked like might be a tCz turnaround, Bravo and BS were able to overcome the Killers and a dropped bomb. However, the clock ran out of time right as they were planting.

The 10th and 11th rounds brought no luck to tCz either. In one round, they tried the double-door push again, yet Pint and his sneaky spot on the ledge brought down two of The Chozen before they knew what hit them. Rage helped control the B ramp from outside the CT bridge room.

In the 12th round, with only 3 rounds remaining, The Chozen needed to post up at least one more round-win to tie the match, otherwise they were going to face defeat. Working their way towards the A site, BS was able to take down both Rage and Pablo, as well as plant the bomb. With the bomb planted, and the situation 2v2, Kid set up to defend the bomb. As he heard a member of the Killers appproach to his blind left, Kid threw a premptive nade, and then rushed him. In what I am officially dubbing the "2007-2008 TTP Fail Nade", the angle at which his nade was thrown ended up in Kid running into his own grenade, resulting in a self-death. With the situation 2v1, and B.S. in a bad spot, Sambo was able to get the kill and the defuse.

It came down to the wire. With the score at 15-14, in favor of the Killers, The Chozen HAD to win the last round to tie the match, otherwise the victory would go to the Killers. As The Chozen rushed the bridge room, B.S. team-killed one of his own teammates in a headshot on Pimp that rivals Kid's fail nade. The Chozen could not recover and were quickly eliminated by the Killers. The Killers had won the TTP Counter-Strike: Source tournament.

Final Score: The Killers 16, the Chozen 14.

The match was about as close as it could get. It was a great game played by both sides, and a hard battle fought. My congratulations to both of them on a job well done. Expect to see great things continue to come out of both groups.
